Re: a non-munchkin
The roleplay-intensive games like
Shadows of Isildur (),
Harshlands (),
Atonement (in alpha still, I believe) ()
and of course the one I'm from, Armageddon ()
are all pretty heavily focused around plots of varying scales - between your character and him/herself, between your character and other characters and between your character and the world around him/her. In all of these games there is some element of gaining skill and becoming good at combat, crafting, etc, but there are various plots/storylines to jump into. That's by no means a complete list; there are a lot of intensive roleplay games out there, but those are the four I'm most familiar with.
