MUME: The Old Forest Road through Mirkwood

MUME (Multi Users in Middle Earth) is a free multiplayer roleplaying game based upon J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle Earth that has been continuously enhanced since fall '91.

We just opened a new area, the Old Forest Road. For the first time, our players can venture into the depths of Mirkwood -- that dark, mysterious forest that almost spelled the end for Bilbo and his dwarven companions.

Soon the light at the gate was like a little bright hole far behind, and the quiet was so deep that their feet seemed to thumb along while all the trees leaned over them and listened.
Come explore and live in this meticulously crafted world during its late Third Age (25.000+ rooms, all original)!
But be warned! There is a three-sided war going on. Will you survive? Will you surpass your allies in battle and become a warlord?

Great Lord of the Rings mud with exciting player killing. Newbie zones are relatively safe! Players from around the world are constantly logging in so finding an xp group or just finding an answer to a question is usually never a problem. Use a good client and download one of the mappers, as suggested in the post above!
