A new Wipe! Welcome to Wipe 16 and MAJOR game changes!

Every so often, Arctic developers implement a change that requires a massive reset of all players. We call this reset a "wipe", and with each wipe, we usher in a new round and begin anew the race for glory. Arctic just now wiped on November 29, and

Nearly every class received major changes for this round. There's far too much to cover everything, but here are some highlights:


Conclave Mages - 3 new mage classes
---------------------------------------
Start your journey as a new class called "Magic User". When suitably skilled (level 10) and ready to hone your arcane craft, you may attempt to join the Conclave and don your colored robe. The Conclave Test at the Tower of High Sorcery in Wayreth will test your worth, and, once passed, you can start your journey as a Robed Mage - white, red, or black. Over 60 new Robe Mage spells and many new skills have been added to the game. This really is the tip of the iceberg.


Shaman Overhaul
----------------------------
A big revision of the Shaman guild has taken place. The main thrust of this change was to remove the nature requirements from Shaman and put them firmly in the land of the dead. Dealing with nature is reserved for druids only now.


The tanks lead the assault!
-------------------------------------------------
Dark knights, Paladins, Barbarians, and Warriors have all received attention in the form of new or adjusted skills, spells, and a general restructuring of the classes. For every player, new and old, there are guaranteed to be plenty of new things to discover. Returning players will notice that, for example, the bash skill has been significantly changed (for both the basher and the bashee!).

Welcome to wipe 17 and a lot of game changes in ArcticMUD!

As always, the new wipe brings new changes and new challenges. There's far too much to cover everything, but here are some highlights:


Dargonest and Sahuagin Revamps
--------------------------------------------

Layouts changed, completely new quests, and new bosses!

While the old dargonesti city of Naulidis was once a mere outpost, Prince Lyzian has recently decided to retire and cede leadership of the city to his cousin, Aquironian. The change in leadership has brought some changes to the underwater city, which has been renamed "Darthalla".

Unfortunately, these changes did not ecape the notice of the dargonesti's hated enemies, the sahuagin. Emboldened by a newfound connection with their shark-god, the vicious fish-men have refortified their nearest stronghold and begun raiding the dargonesti city again.

Brave adventurers who wish to visit the sea elves or raid the sahuagin settlement should be cautious so as not to become a casualty of the war.


Major changes in PvP
---------------------------

Even though Arctic has been famous as an excellent, violent PvP environment for ages, we improved it even further. Now, there are even fewer restrictions, and the rules of PvP in general became simplier.


Major changes for Magic Users and other spellcasting classes
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Lots of spells got changed to improve the game balance in general and to make each class even more unique and enjoyable to play.



Major changes for Ranked and Legendary Characters
---------------------------------------------------

The ranks have been significantly redone, and the new set of legendary ranks is still getting the final polish. Don't miss the opportunity to write your name in the history of ArcticMUD as a Legendary player!

When I logged on yesterday, there were 108 visible players online. Woohoo!!!

And yes, the new wipe has just started in ArctidMUD. For several months from now, you may expect to see 30-70 persons online whenever you log on. Come join the fun, today is a good time for it!

As always, the new wipe comes with the new changes to the game. Here it goes:

- Most races got unique bonuses in addition to greater differences in their initial stats. A sneaky kender or a clumsy minotaur, a frail gnome or a brutish half-ogre, there is something for any taste!

- Experience tables got modified. In general, it takes more experience now to get to the high levels. As the result, it became easier to find a group (even for an experienced player, getting xp in a group is much faster than solo). As another consequence, there are less "trash" characters around.

- Many skills and spells were changed or even completely rewritten.

- A lot of minor changes were implemented for convenience and usability. I'd like to particularly mention several new output options for the condition of the player and their group members.

- And much more!

The changes include:

Race Updates:
A brief refresh of the races was completed. Racial bonuses have been added to the help files e.g. HELP RACE HUMAN will now show what racial bonus they receive. Racial bonuses have been adjusted to never be offensive or directly PvP related (things like bash_mod and +damage were removed). In addition to racial bonuses, the stats for races have also been slightly adjusted. You should find it easier to roll in playable range than before.


We will use the approximately 48 hours of downtime to do the tweaks to the game.
The game will re-open at 3pm MST on October 24th, 2014.
