I've scoured the internet for MUD code/snippets, and am pleased to announce that our resource is now OPEN! APSA features both DIKU-Based and LPmud snippets sections, as well as downloads for popular MUD, MUSH, MUCK, and MOO codebases!

I'm still adding code to the site every day; but with over 120 snippets already there, I figured now is the time to open our doors! As soon as I'm done adding the initial snippets, I will implement a convenient form on the website which you can use to submit code/snippets to be listed! This is great if you're a coder and want other people to see and benefit from the ingenious works you've created!

Here's the URL for Aethia's Public Snippets Archive:

(and for all you lisdexic ppl out there, also works :P)

I created this site as a public service to the mudding community (a.k.a. I got REALLY bored one day). If you have any comments/questions/concerns/etc, or you'd just like to submit a snippet before I have a chance to get that form up (calm down, tiger!), please feel free to email me at

Enjoy! =)

I should clarify to anyone who may be wondering that I did contact every author whose snippet license required me to do so prior to hosting their snippets, all of whom granted permission, some of whom even offered additional code that had not yet been released elsewhere.  In light of some recent controversy, I went ahead and emailed all the other authors as well, as a courtesy.  I was planning to do so when I did the final layout of the site, but in light of some recent ravings by some guy whom I'll leave anonymous (let's just say he has personal motives and leave it at that), I figured it'd be a good idea to get it over with now.

The disclaimer basically states that I either had permission from the author, or from the license, or both.  If it's not a -registered- copyright, and the license doesn't specify any prohibitions and/or conditions concerning distribution, then legally one is not required to obtain permission from the author (since the non-copyrighted license, in not prohibiting it, in effect grants it); it is a matter of common courtesy and respect to do so anyways, and I do apologize to anyone concerned about any delay there was in doing so.  I have a very busy schedule, with a full-time job and all, and with such a large number of snippets to go through, it took awhile to organize all the email addresses. I wasn't able to contact everyone, as many didn't have any contact info listed, and some didn't even have an author's name.  If you see your code there and you weren't contacted by me, please feel free to pm me with your email address and I'll get back to ya.  :)

If you would like your code to be included at this site, there will be a form made available at the site for that very purpose once I finish the site's final layout design.

So tell me something. When I attempted to do just what you've asked here, why was my request to have my code removed from your site ignored? Why was no effort made to contact myself and others who have asked me if I was asked, and they also inform me they were not asked? I'd like to know. I'd also like to know why the only things you had to say to me about this when I contacted you are too vile and vulgar to deserve being repeated here.

I'll leave this to others to address. I'll just mention that you are quite mistaken. I'll also mention that you failed to pay heed to the licenses under which my snippets and codebase are covered since they explicity forbid what you've done even though they do not need to.

I am going to have to ask how you got Aurora's permission to post her files there.  Only one person can give permission for others to host her code and he has not been around recently.

For those out of the know, Aurora was the owner of the Lost Prophecy up until 2000.  Since then Aurora has left MUDding and her MUD.  As she was my friend, I was privi to a smidge of information and it was made clear Samson was one of few, if not the only, with permission to post her work.

As I do, the Alsherok Team and Samson also subscribe to not giving out copies of their code to others for posting.  This is to prevent accidental installation of backdated code. Linking with permission, however, is rarely out of the question.

I have to assume permission was not gained there because Samson is rather determined to keep work local to ease his mind and lessen the need to deal with people who find outdated code.

I am avoiding this conversation for more personal reasons, however I feel it necessary to speak up on one point. Sadiq was a very close friend of mine... he was like a part of my family. The last time I spoke to him was on October 28th of 2002. I have not seen or heard from him since.

At that time he was terminally ill. Samson and I talked to him on the date above. On that day he granted permission to two people to distribute his code, should he no longer be able to (and at this point, that is the only assumption I can come to).

Those two people are Samson and myself. I do not appreciate your taking advantage of my friend in this manner. I am not going to get into the bulk of this argument, I simply felt this needed to be said.

Good day to you.

That is incorrect. Registration is irrelevent in this situation - it is not a condition of copyright protection, nor does it even exist in many countries.

Copyright law secures for the copyright holder five exclusive rights. These are the right to reproduce the copyrighted work, the right to prepare derivative works based upon the work, the right to distribute copies of the work to the public, the right to perform the copyrighted work publicly, and the right to display the copyrighted work publicly.

Copyright law also allows the copyright holder to transfer some or all of those rights to third parties, on either an exclusive or nonexclusive basis. Such a transfer is usually either an assignment or a license.

Without such an assignment or license, you do not have permission to copy, modify, distribute, perform or display the copyrighted work. Such actions are prohibited by law.

Is an online form even valid? From previous discussions here, I could have sworn only a hardcopy, signed affadavit was acceptible.

For a transfer of exclusive rights, or a transfer of the copyright itself, yes. But you don't need such for non-exclusive rights, such as that granted by mud/snippet licenses.

In light of above comments, and since you won't answer me in private, Kris, please remove my code from your site. I fail to grasp why such a simple request has led to such a big mess.
