Top Muds - PC Gaming Magazine UK

PCGaming, a rather good, unbiased PC gaming mag (UK only I think) has a MMO supplement inside. Of course it usually dwells on games such as LOTRO, WoW.. however there is quite a nice history of the MMO game where MUD's are briefly discussed.

However, they also produce what they think are the top three MUD's.. and here they are

1) Achaea
2) Wheel of Time
3) Diskworld

Comes with a short review of each.

Figures. That's like official xbox magazine saying that the xbox is the better gaming system.

Can we get a link so I can make fun of it even more please?

Re: Top Muds - PC Gaming Magazine UK

Thanks! Had no idea they were doing that kind of thing. I've never seen that magazine either. If they publish their articles digitally I'd love to see a link to it.

Re: Top Muds - PC Gaming Magazine UK

They're talking about a UK gaming magazine giving recognition to three (AFAIK) US-based games. There's no co-ownership issues. Based on Matt's post, it's not somewhere IRE advertises, and I doubt the two free games have the budget to do so. What exactly are you implying?

Nope, we don't advertise there, never have, and can't imagine ever will.

Re: Top Muds - PC Gaming Magazine UK

Not sure about copyright issues, but I will scan the article / tables on Monday and post a link to em. Quite an interesting article. MOst of it is done 'interview' style with Lord British himself.. and the problems he had with ultima online, how they allowed for 10000 users, and within weeks had 50000.

bear in mind, the MUD section is quite small.. but the article is a good read nontheless

Text muds? Over on GameDev.net, the newbies think of them as 'text-based MMORPGs'...

It's not a problem as such. It's just a shame to see so many people have no idea of the history of games, or indeed awareness of what is out there.

Re: Top Muds - PC Gaming Magazine UK

In my opinion the problem is that the MUD community has kinda gotten into a bad phase. Few years ago you saw lots of articles and resources written on sites such as TMS. There hasn't been a new article here for 3 years.

The coding forum here on TMS is also a good indication of problems, . Go take a look. There's only 10 threads in there created 2008. Only 10 threads! What happened? It is similar in the advanced coding forum. The builder forum seem in even worse shape .
