Dead Souls 2.4.2 Released

The Dead Souls 2.4.2 (stable) mudlib has been released.

It is an LPC codebase that includes the lib, driver,
and documentation needed to get a mud up and running
in no time flat.

A few of the key features of Dead Souls:

* Windows and UNIX version in the same package
* Sophisticated race/body system
* Skill and level based combat and spellcasting
* OLC (creation of creatures and objects with simple commands)
* Thorough faqs and docs for building
* Sample areas and quests
* Connection to a helpful and supportive intermud community
* Virtual room server that allows quick, convenient creation of 1,000's of rooms
* Menu-based administration (admintool)
* CLI administration tool (mudconfig)
* Built in editor
* Built in http and ftp servers
* Liveupgrade system for online upgrades to new versions
* Syntax and parsing compatibility with older LP libs and even Diku-style codebases
* Mounts, limb-based bodies, languages, variable room descs based on time of day, triggers, and lots more

Dead Souls 2.4.2 is intended to be as easy to use for newbies as
ever, yet as powerful and versatile for veterans as always.

For example, some people have complained that LPC style
parsing is just too darn cumbersome, having to type out stuff like:

"give the third key to the second knight"

The Dead Souls parser has been reworked with this in mind, and
now accommodates various input styles. You can now enable
shortest-unique command matching, and shortest-unique name
matching, as well as numeric ordinals, such that the following
commands would work:

"giv key 3 kni 2"

"gi 3.ke 2.kni"

This is just one example of the large number of tweaks, fixes, and
upgrades that Dead Souls has undergone since the previous
stable version of 2.1.1.

Please give Dead Souls 2.4.2 a day in court. It's a solid, reliable,
thoroughly documented and extensively featured lib that's a
leader in the LPC codebase family, and it's so easy a
caveman could do it.

Re: Dead Souls 2.4.2 Released

Sounds great. I am really glad to hear this mudlib is still being developed and supported.
