The Administration of Endless Dreams MUD regretfully posts this letter
to inform the MUDding Community of a suspected hacker posing
as a MUD Coder.  A person (who details appear below) was taken
in as a member of our staff as a coder after being known for a good
amount of time.  Once this person obtained shell access for coding
purposes, he used this new found privileges as an attempt to finding
exploits and security flaws.  Thankfully this person was kind enough
to ignore the player log that was set on his character which contained
information that alerted us to his intentions.  In addition, contact was
made with the host who confirmed this persons attempts  to exploit
the security of the server and the MUD. I implore you to use the
the following information as a tool of caution for anyone who’s
records may match the following;

Let me get this straight.

You gave him shell. And he abused it. And you call him a hacker?

He's not a hacker, or a cracker, if he did not access it without your giving him access to the shell.

Nor is it illegal to modify his character.

All of your entire post - unethical, yes. But nothing of what you claim. You should be careful to whom you give shell access to.

well i strongly recomand a cvs system, then you will never worry about shell access, any real programmer would have a debbuger and a compiler at there house and possible his own shell for working on.
