The Streets of Yesterday: Victorian RPI bringing the 19th century to the 21st!

It's come to our attention that some believe that The Streets of Yesterday is no more. Allow us to correct that misconception. TSOY is alive and well even if we've taken more than our share of beatings these last few years.

Started in 2005, TSOY has weathered everything from sabotage to a plethora of real life issues (to date, our small staff of five people has seen no fewer than 10 close friends and relatives die in the last 4 years, three this year alone, and dozens of hospitalizations). Not too long ago we decided to abandon the buggy Argila codebase in favor of coding from the ground up using a new codebase utilizing Python-based NakedMud. We've also begun looking at many more modifications to how we'll handle code mechanics in order to make the world far more realistic and detailed. TSOY is and always will be a RPI but we're looking to take RPIs in directions they've never been. We're not creating a world that hasn't been seen before because it has been seen before. We're creating 1860s London, after all!

As the first true Victorian-setting RPI, TSOY is also perhaps the first true historical MUD (not a fantasy mish-mash of historical elements) also designed by an actual historian. Set in 1860s London, TSOY's goals are a world with an unsurpassed attention to detail and quality to provide you with the highest quality role-playing on the web, ironically using the technology of the present to bring you a world of the past, the era of history which introduced many of the concepts which comprise modern society. On TSOY, you'll find a world exactly like it was a century and a half ago, from dress to technology. Some of it will seem familiar as those elements still exist in modern society while others will be as alien as anything you've ever encountered.

We're always looking for intelligent, talented, dedicated and mature individuals for staff. They should have knowledge and an interest in the Victorian period and applicable skills for the position sought. Prospective applicants are approved by the entire staff to ensure that we're comfortable with your knowledge and abilities. We do stress that only serious applicants inquire. This is a long-term project with the highest of standards. With that, we thank you for your interest.

Please submit applications and inquiries to this account via PM or by emailing Falco(at)victorianmud.com (if the latter, send a heads-up via PM here so that I know to check my spam box as well in case it accidently gets sent there).

We've been trying to get things started but life continues to cause problems. On the bright side, my own distractions will be ending tomorrow so that should make it easier to organize everyone together. Hopefully everyone else will be able to begin work soon. Not only is it frustrating in regard to the game but it's also been hard to watch good people having to deal with the tough circumstances which have distracted them.
