Dark Isles - Storm Watch, year 1087

By midday on 18th, Beginning of Summer, the eye of the storm had passed and the weather was raging again. Midnight-black skies poured rain and flashed with threatening lightning that sent people racing for their homes or the nearest tavern to stay out of the worst of it. The storm surge sent huge waves crashing along the beach and over the piers, and more than one poor unfortunate was swept out to sea in their wake. Most were taking matters more calmly, this time though. Stories of storms of this nature were called up, and the brief lull had instilled hope in many hearts. This wasn't the end of the city, but the storm was on its last legs!

~-~

Bombarded by a raging hurricane, the city of Seahaven and its surrounding environs are in dire need of YOUR help. Will you step into the city and take on the role of a carefree Tir, light-hearted with wandering feet and a penchant for color. Or, does the role of a crazed alchemist call to your inner mad scientist, creating potions and concoctions that can heal or harm. Perhaps you will become a tavern proprietor, serving drinks and gossip to the many patrons darkening your common room’s door. This is Dark Isles, a text-based MUD featuring intensive character development and roleplay where the options are only limited by your imagination and the in-depth lore.

Featuring a medium-sized game world with all unique content, Dark Isles offers a rather different take on the common experience system, with your character’s advancement going hand-in-hand with roleplay and story development. Both staff and players alike work together to foster a community that is rich with friendly people and colorful personalities. If this is your first MUD experience, you’ll find helpful advice and aid on finding your feet in the RPI environment. If you are a veteran of roleplay MUDs, then you will find yourself immersed in a vibrant game world with experienced storytellers and deep, rich characters.

We invite you to take part in weaving a colorful tapestry, and step into a world that is at the mercy of the elements. Will the hurricane pound the city to oblivion? Will the roaring winds push the ominous, mysterious shadows ever closer? Who will perish and who will rise above? The story is in YOUR hands. Come join the adventure!

Re: Dark Isles - Storm Watch, year 1087

The announcement came late on 17th End of Summer, just before sunset: The man once known as Count Beckett ap Raenold of House Abduros had been chosen by the people and the nobles alike. The first Regis had been named. With the coronation still some weeks away, speculation abounds as to just how the man will take to the throne and how Lord Commander Jarel Armanis will react when the time comes to formally hand over leadership of the city.
~-~

Reconstruction efforts have redoubled in the wake of the storm’s passing, with the kingdom of Seahaven gazing towards a hopeful future under a new mantle of leadership. Nobles vie for the Regis’ attention and favor, while the commoners engage in light-hearted Harvest festivities after the trials and tribulations of the previous years. Through it all, an uncertainty shadows the future and dark undercurrents threaten to steal hope away.

Dark Isles now boasts its first player-character Monarch, adding a new depth of political play into an already fulfilling and deep roleplay experience. are available for those interested in taking up a role, or you can create an entirely new persona with a team of helpful staff able to offer assistance or answer any questions.

Right now is an exciting time to take part in the story. Storyteller interaction is at an unprecedented level with events that are open for all to take part in. Recently the town of Milford played host to the kingdom’s with contests that included pig wrestling, foot races, pie eating, and ended with a round of country dancing. Meanwhile, there are of twisted happenings coming forth from the alleys found near the docks and from the darkness outside the city gates. Will the Cloaks be able to stem the tide of whatever is coming?

Come take on the role of a hardworking member of the Cloaks, or that of a brooding Ranger defending the kingdom against an ongoing demonic incursion. Or, you might begin your own shadowed empire in the bowels of the city, recruiting thugs and assassins alike. The story is in your hands!

Re: Dark Isles - Storm Watch, year 1087

The long, languid, lazy summer days have flown by and once again the rains are here, soaking the farmers' soil and nurturing the wild lands. With the celebrations of harvest past, the upcoming Feast of Winter Lights gives citizens of Seahaven something to look forward to. And yet, the joy and excitement of the holiday seasons are unnaturally tempered: the city is held in the grip of apprehension and fear. With the rains, the numbers of demons have surged and this year the city walls aren't holding them at bay. Danger fills the streets. Strong men and women man the defenses and the call is out for more! If this is only the beginning of the demon season. . .

For fourteen years, the stark miasma known as the 'Darkness' has clouded the visible horizon. All around the Dark Isles it strangles and chokes out life, perverting anything it touches, and every year fall leads into Darkfall, the season when the Darkness gorges itself on the chill of winter. A time when the Darkness, bloated to bursting, stretches forth to provide new wondrous, grotesque, horrors. A term that will grace the land this year in only a short amount of time.

Yet hope is strong. Hope, that another timid season will grace the Dark Isles this year. The Festival of Lights fills the city with joy - joy in the face of such a dark season. Soon the first buds of spring will burst forth from a winter snow, people remind themselves. I will look out my window and see the cobblestones bathed in sunlight once more. Songs will carry from the Tirrish caravan over the fresh, new, plains, until their lyrical notes die upon the farms the stoic farms of Milford. The demons will fall back as the warmth of spring deepens on into summer, and all shall be good and green again, in both peoples' hearts and fields.

But what will you do until then?

With the rising of a player monarch, many new positions in the court of Seahaven have risen up, and the call for security and stability has been echoed in posters all over the city, announcing the need for able-bodied men to fight for their liberties and their lives. There are numerous paths and plenty opportunities for characters to take advantage of in the present day of Seahaven, numerous ways to enjoy yourself and create a character that you can sink into completely and utterly. So come on and make your way to the Dark Isles. Just watch out for the kraken. ^.^
