The BS curve

Ever try a new game and have an overwhelming amount of stuff thrown at you, and then if you get discouraged everyone tells you that it's because of the game's highly difficult learning curve? But it's not because you don't understand anything, it's because the stuff you have to do is so tedious and it feels more like you're doing chores rather than learning the game and getting more experienced. You want to actually play the game like everyone else, but so much of your time is spent proving to others that you can play it before you actually get to the stage where you can play.

Re: The BS curve

That has never happened to me, what game(s) did you experience that in?

I noticed a pattern of different weird quirks as far as "proving oneself" in WoW and Star Wars Old Republic on the guild-level, especially as a new recruit. But I didn't find that so unusual having gone through Boot Camp and being in a Fraternity in College, etc.

Re: The BS curve

It's not really charitable of me to name games, though I do have one in mind.

It's not so much the "proving oneself" part that I have a problem with, it's that when the requirements are really tedious to the point where you feel like you're not playing the game. Also, when the bar for completing each task feels really high or obstructed for some reason; needing an item of some sort, but none are available, or the name of the shop doesn't match its merchandise (finding chainmail in a cafe, for instance).
