I suppose the topic question is a little bit misleading, because I'm sure that this isn't ethical. It's just kind of mind boggling that a MUD owner would want to use a spy hack on his players:

From that site, here are the security precautions you can take with IE to keep the contents of your clipboard from being pasted to someone else, unknown to you.

1. Close all IE instances, except one
2. Select "Tools"
3. Select "Internet Options"
4. Select the "Security" tab
5. Select the "Internet" zone's globe icon and click "Custom Level..."
6. Scroll down to the "Scripting" section and under "Allow paste operations via script", select "Disable"
7. Click "OK" and "Yes" to the dialog that pops up.
8. Click "OK" again
9. Close the browser to ensure the settings are saved

Shrug. I consider everything on my computer insecure and thusly have nothing important pertaining to me on it. One of the main reasons why I refuse to get a credit card.

It does look a bit fishy though. Thanks for info.

Question

Well yes, I'd consider it pretty unethical. Just because it's possible doesn't mean it's right. All the more reason to use , if this sort of thing is enabled by default on IE =).

What you guys might want to consider doing, though, is hop on over to and copy a few books into your clipboard. If they're going to spy, why not let them spy on something interesting? Another fun trick is to use the whois records to find the name, address, and telephone number of the offender. Then copy into your clipboard fake documents referencing "packages" and his address while visiting his site.

Remember, spying is only effective when the victims don't know you're doing it. If they do, they can feed you all sorts of interesting tidbits of fake information =).
