LFM-- Good D&D Training

I have a friend who is getting ready to play a game of old school D&D in a few weeks (with books and dice etc.). She has never played D&D or on a MUD before. I'm looking for one that would help prepare her for D&D. Any recommendations? Thanks!

Re: LFM-- Good D&D Training

Although an actual D&D mud meant to emulate D&D like Shadowgate would probably be the best (see sig). I am pretty sure tabletop and Muds are far too different to really help with the learning of each other.

Simply because Tabletops tend to have two dimensional combat systems (three if you are willing to deal with the complexities of the advanced flight rules).

And Muds are all one dimensional.

Tenebrae might be a good MUD for that. They try to recreate the tabletop experience as much as possible.

Be prepared for much OOC channel discussion of Controversial Political Opinions, though.

Re: LFM-- Good D&D Training

This is a good point and to add to that tabletop involves much more "working together" needs and much slower pace than a standard MUD.

If, however, you are just trying to get the feel for Roleplay and Interactive Fantasy gaming Shadowgate and ForgottenMUD are good locations and for massive players in a medieval environment with D&D style powers/combat, Ateraan would work as well.

baldur's gate 2 and neverwinter nights.. of course they are not muds but they are true to d&d rules (they will get her acquainted with spells etc.).. if you need a mud so much then forgottenmud is your best choice as mentioned before..

Hi Qwarth, Arantha MUD emulates the general 2nd ed. AD&D rules set with both stats and combat, I would suggest you hop on by and check us out sometime! arantha.net:4000
