You missed an option, My answer would probably be the feel of the mud, which encompasses a whole realm of options.

Thumbs up

I couldn't have said it better.

I voted for people/players, because they are the most important. How you are treated, how you interact.

But it all goes together, the codebase, the policies, the immies, the players, everything.

Cool

Storylines.

I love a MUD that follows storylines. Where guilds/clans/houses all follow these 'chapters' in stories...

I think Otherspace does that? Haven't even tried playing it yet, but that's what I've heard.

Anyways, a MUD that can tell a great story that I can get lost in...that's for me.

It's hard to find these days.

A long time ago (in a galaxy... no wait, wrong post), when I was a player, the main criteria for me was how much "fun" the place was. Fairly nebulous criterion, I know.

These days, however, if I go on a mud, the thing most likely to make me smile is that little bit of code I hoped, but didn't expect to do anything. For example, if a room has a window in its description, and I "look window" and see a scene from the street outside, that makes me smile. Stuff like that.

Maybe it's an artifact of being an "oldbie" - I don't look to play the game any more, I look for new experiences.

Kas.

I agree with Weiss and Kyandra.

Personally I play for the social aspect of mudding - if I didnt like the people (players and Immortals) then I wouldn't have stayed.
I like the eccentrics that you find on the mud - it's comforting to know that there are numerous other people who are as mad if not madder than I am *grin*

I like MUDs where players have complete creative control over the majority of the ongoing plots.

I like to able to accomplish many things. For example, gain levels, while become a Swordsmaster throughout the time of advance through the ranks. I love multi-tasking in a MUD. I never get bored this way.

If a MU* could/would can/will remove all people like Xanferious and Shao_Long, I'd be a player for life, regardless of what the MU* was - H&S, PK, RP, etc.

What?

I was being serious. And, unlike present company, I do not spam. Read my post - I was being quite serious. I meant what I said, even if the meaning was implied - I look for quality players to play with. Not for.....trash. I think that is the word I am looking for.

<Is wondering why she's doing this when it didn't work the last time she tried>

Gents... please refrain from further insult, okees?  I mean, as it is I feel bad that this is the bulk of what I see from you both.  Each of you seem to be fairly creative people, and I think the general population would appreciate you use that creativity for something more positive than the random barb fired at one another.  That said....

What I like best about muds it the over all atmosphere.  This is a bit all-inclusive, but it's true. I've seen muds with a fantastic storyling go down the tubes because the coding wasn't there. I've built for muds that had great coding, but some fairly wacky rules that caused the players to just avoid it completely.  There are muds out there that will make me happy, and there are muds out there that'll disgust me enough to leave without making it to level 2 or its equivalent.  There are some that I really miss playing, but I have had to move on.  There's one I'm banned from-- long story, and it's all a big misunderstanding, really-- but I was getting frustrated with the change in staff and the monstrosity it was becoming, so I'm really okay with leaving.

So.. yeah. Overall atmosphere. That incorporates all the choices and then some.

the best part about a mud that i enjoy is the interactivity between you and the mud itself, how far can you realy emerise yourself into the game, i like where you have many options to the players, where they can RP & PK and still build there kingdom.

I would have to say the playerbase. Any mud can be complicated easy fun weak. But the players are what makes it run. You could have the crappiest MUD in the world..but if your playerbase is well rounded and good RP'ers then it is awesome. On the same not you can have the best desgined and well rounded MUD..and if the players are crap..the game is crap. So after all that..its the players...Always the players

Caxandra: See Feyona's post. It echoed my sentiments exactly.

If the pbase is nothing but trash, then the MUD is trash, regardless of how good or bad the code may be.
