Forum Re-Jig

Ok, I've been thinking about this a while, and figured I'd see what other people think of the suggestion.

As TMS doesn't have a particularly huge amount of traffic discussion-wise right now, I think it might be an idea to cut down on the number of sections slightly. My suggestion would be to amalgamate Roleplaying and Storytelling, and remove MUD Humour and Forum Games. Any important topics from those two can easily be moved to the Tavern first.

Re: Forum Re-Jig

I think it is a good idea to keep "web game" type things in a separate forum (and perhaps also prevent them from being listed on the front page). They tend to be pretty frivolous and many people prefer to avoid them.

As for RP and Storytelling, I could see those merging.

Re: Forum Re-Jig

That's a good point about the forum games thing that I overlooked. I guess I was just going on the lack of activity in there as an indication that people on here were more interested in discussion (or possibly flaming arguments ) than playing daft "I've got more posts than you" games!

Re: Forum Re-Jig

Seems pretty reasonable to me at least.

I think it's a very good idea to merge the RP and Storytelling aspects of the forums together.

Re: Forum Re-Jig

Here's one reason not to (assuming it is storytelling that would go away and not RP):

Then again, it's 35 threads out of almost 4,000 indexed with the new URLs, they're not highly ranked for anything and would be picked up in a new sitemap anyway so it's probably fine.

Re: Forum Re-Jig

If you're worried about search visibility, you could just rename the forum "Storytelling and Roleplaying".

I'd also suggest renaming "Advanced MUD Concepts" to just "MUD Concepts". I think it's implicit that you're supposed to be discussing something novel, and "Advanced" just sounds pompous. We don't have a"Funny MUD Humor" forum.

Finally, I disagree with merging "Forum Games" into the Tavern, since I find most of them obnoxiously repetitive and conducive to spam, and the Tavern is the catch-all forum. I do think "MUD Humor" and "Forum Games" could be merged into one forum, however-- neither sees a lot of use, and there's value in concentrating activity into a reasonably-sized set of forums.
