In response to the recent frequency of orc, bandit, and other raids, our most gracious King Borgia ordered his staff to research every means, magical or otherwise, to replenish the food stores of his populace. Since these raids have continued into the harvest season, he feared that the damage would result in food shortages and starvation.

The casting of one of these many spells was disrupted by an orc siege led by Dregnar Cankerstump. The casting went awry, causing its effects to be spread randomly over this continent and its nearby isles. The result of this seems to be positive, if not a bit disorganized. Peasants, farmers, and traders are reporting the growth of pumpkin patches all over the wilderness. While it is good that the spell was not ruined, the random distribution of these pumpkin patches presents a serious logistical problem in gathering the pumpkins so they can be used for food.

Thus has King Borgia decreed a Pumpkin Contest to encourage adventurers and travellers to gather these pumpkins and bring them to a Grand Pumpkin Festival where they will be judged upon a variety of size criterion:

1) Largest Pumpkin (in weight)
2) Largest Collection of 10 Pumpkins
3) Smallest Pumpkin
4) Smallest Collection of 10 Pumpkins

Some of these pumpkins are not ideal for eating, but are excellent for carving. Carved pumpkins will be judged upon these criterion:

1) Best Overall
2) Funniest
3) Scariest
4) A Category to be chosen at the time of the contest.

The Grand Pumpkin Festival will be held on (October 31st, 9:30pm EST). On the day of the contest, a booth will be opened where your pumpkins can be submitted for the size contests. Carved Pumpkins, however, must be brought to the actual festival. There will be other activities and games planned for the celebration as well.

King Borgia looks forward to your attendance at the Grand Pumpkin Festival and thanks you in advance for your civic pride in helping with the gathering of these pumpkins for the benefit and feeding of the populace.

This event begins Thursday, October 26th, 2006 and continues until the festival itself on October 31st, 2006 at 9:30pm EST.

It is an event that can be enjoyed by players of any level since the various zones where pumpkins can be found spawn level-oriented pumpkin patches (so high level people cannot raid the pumpkin patches in low level areas). Also, anyone can come up with a creative carving!

If you have ever considered giving Threshold a shot, this event is one where you can quickly demonstrate some of your own creativity, and it will provide an opportunity to meet a lot of the characters and personalities of the game world at the festival.

So far, 606 pumpkins have been found, but neither the heaviest possible nor the lightest possible pumpkins have yet been found!
