CALL FOR ARTISTS
The Orlando Science Center is Searching for
Talented Digital Artists for ARTronica
Selected Artists Will Display Their Work During Otronicon
Orlando’s Ultimate Video Game Experience on January 20-29, 2006
ORLANDO – (December 9, 2005) – The Orlando Science Center (OSC) is working with multiple collaborators, including presenting sponsor Full Sail Real World Education, to present Otronicon on January 20-29, 2006. This event will use the popularity of video games to explore the math and science involved in their design as well as showcase Orlando’s role in the interactive entertainment and simulation industries. In addition to Full Sail’s support, this project is funded in part by Orange County Government through the Arts and Cultural Affairs Cultural Tourism Program.
As part of Otronicon, OSC is looking for submissions of digital art for a juried exhibition entitled ARTtronica. Professional and student 2D and 3D artists are encouraged to submit art samples if they would like to participate in this unique merging of art and science. All styles of artwork in which digital processes of any kind were integral to the creation of the images are acceptable. These include, but are not limited to:
* 2D and 3D Fine Art
* Computer Art
* Computer Generated Models
* Virtual Art
* Interactive or online works
* Small scale installations
The submission must include visual samples, artwork title and media, description of the work and an artist’s statement and experience (200 words maximum), and any instructions for installation, floor plans, and equipment requirements.
ATRonica is also planning to feature live artist stations, where guests can observe digital art being created. Artists will sign up for a 3-hour shift and will be asked to create either 2D or 3D artwork during that time frame. An important element that each artist must be aware of is that they should be able to explain what they are doing and the tools they are using to curious attendees. Artists interested in participating must submit samples of work, chosen style for presentation (2D, 3D, or hybrid), software and hardware requirements, and schedule of availability from January 19 to January 29, 2006.
More information and an application form can be found at www.otronicon.org.
All applications must be submitted in PDF format. If necessary, supporting QuickTime and image files may be submitted as well. Entries are limited to three per artist, and should contain good quality JPEG files of original work.
The deadline for submission is December 23, 2005. Final notices of acceptance will be sent by January 5, 2006. Artists and works selected will be displayed during the VIP preview of Otronicon on January 19, 2006 and throughout the event from January 20-29.
Inquires about submission to the ARTronica: Digital Art Exhibition should be made to ARTronica@osc.org.
