There are lots of good ones out there, if you want something similar to Achaea in it's look and feel, but stronger roleplaying I would suggest Lusternia, which is IRE's newest release and just over a year old.

Actually, there are two muds I recommend to people who like Rapture muds but are looking for something a bit different: Evarayn and Akanbar. Both of them utilize a balance system like Avalon and the Rapture muds, have great PK and make it possible to obtain skills without ever paying a cent. Akanbar does allow you to pay for perks (similar to Achaean credits, but you can always obtain lessons by levelling and/or for every few minutes online) and Evarayn (ie when they're low on money for the server) lets you obtain lessons a little bit faster (you gain specialized lessons through time spent on the mud and common lessons for levelling) for giving donations, but they only open the donation box every so often and the bonus is fairly negligable. Anyways, I highly recommend people check these two muds out.

Not to nit-pick, but Rapture has nothing to do with a balance recovery system. Rapture is just an engine, how the game plays is up to the coders. One could make a diku style game using Rapture, if they so chose too.

My apologies. I'm just in the -- admittidly bad -- habit of calling IRE muds the rapture muds. I guess until that other non-IRE rapture mud comes out it isn't wholly inaccurate, though.
