Forgive me for reposting this poll, but the other one was messed up and lost it's votes and such. Anyways,

For the poll, put what age you are now, and in your post, talk about what age you started at.

Right now I am almost 14 (making me 13 for all those who are failing math), while I started when I was 12. I have not met anybody that was younger then 12 when they started MUDing, but I have yet people other them myself who were 12. It's always interesting to see those who are more mature then most be a young age. I've been told I'm pretty mature for my age on my MUD, while others 10 years older them me are pretty immautre.

I dunno, give me some feedback. I want to get this poll goin again.

I'm kind of a late bloomer, heh. A guy I was dating at the time introduced me to a mud he played shortly before I turned 23, and then sorely regretted it when years passed and I kept mudding...and mudding...and mudding. (I'm 26 now.) I got sick of h&s muds pretty fast, only being able to tolerate them for at most a couple weeks each, and then I discovered my current mud and have now wasted most of the last 3 years of my life plugged into it. My friends and family call me a weirdo but I don't care, they said that long before I discovered mudding anyway.

I've known people who started mudding when they were 9 or so, although I didn't know them back then. They're now the most intelligent/mature 14 or so year olds I've ever seen. One guy couldn't even touch type when he started, and now types 90wpm. I've also known quite a few players in their 30s & 40s, and while they tend to figure out game mechanics and create chars that become legends, a lot of them are kinda boring for me to be around. I also did a poll similar to this on a mud I played briefly and lo and behold, there were even a couple people 50 or older. I think it's really amazing that a mud can attract such a varied bunch of people, all different ages and from all around the globe, and they can all interact in game and it doesn't matter who's what IRL when they start creating a world and getting involved in intricate plots. Of course you still have your whiny guy (or girl) -crazy 14 year olds, but then you have whiny immature 20-30-40 year olds too so it all evens out in the end.

I first started MUDding when I was 19, and I'm 22 now. Believe it or not, I'm still playing my original character from my first MUD.

Yeah? Well I started mudding when I was 18, maxed my first character when I was 19, and I still play that same character from time to time. I turn 28 in April

My very first character got deleted (died) because of rp circumstances. I've recently made her brother though, who's come looking for his sister, and wants to find out what happened. Anyway. My brother started when he was 13. I've got to say, he's more mature than some older people I've seen. But then, some people never grow up, do they.?

Oh Enzo, thank you! I LOVE this poll.

There are times when I sit around in whatever MUD, listening to people talk over the ooc channels about what they did in school that day, and I feel really old.

Why this insecurity? Why these feelings of shame and guilt about, as a grown woman, dedicating all these hours to "playing a game"? (This in a world which devotes unthinkable resources to chasing little balls around muddy fields?) I dunno, I'll ask my shrink, but in the meantime...

I started mudding at 20, guess that's 8 years ago. The mud I maxed my first character on has been gone for years, so I can't still play him

I'll be 23 in April and have no idea how long I have been on muds. Maybe four years I think... I've never really bothered finding out what age people think I am by guessing on a mud. Age isn't anything really important to me at all. If it was I'd be out of too many great friends because they are either somewhat younger or much older than me. If they can rp something fierce, the more the merrier.
