Speaking from someone tired of monotous consistency, good luck to all of you at Aardwolf!

And yes, please by all means feel free to assume what you want from this, I'm sure you will be correct...

Yes, winning every contest for the last year is getting tedious. Competition good.

I don't know. They have very odd voting behaviors anyway. They'll get no votes for a couple days and then suddenly shoot up by a couple hundred votes.

What's with the hostility?

It seemed cool to me to see logos cheering on another competitor. Or did I misread something?

I was mentioning that it wasn't a commercial mud. Where's the hostility in that? I think there is more hostility in Matts words then mine.

Vryce makes a living off his mud and claims it is not Diku based in
order to justify doing so. I am simply opening donations up for a few
days to pay for an upgrade the server needs. Yes there is a reward given,
but there is nothing given that cannot be gotten through just plain
working for it either - the only advantage donators have over non-donators
is a time saving. Also, what I am giving as a reward is nothing that
is part of stock Diku or ROM - trivia points/quest points. Don't get
me wrong, trying to justify it on those grounds would be very silly,
my point is that this is a very fine line. I am not trying to make
money off the mud, if I were I would keep donations open all the time,
I am opening it for a few days to buy some hardware the mud needs to
continue to thrive, if that's so bad and it gets me labelled as a
licence breaker, oh well.

What does that prove? That you are a horrible immortal at Aard? Commercial is something to MAKE money from. Not make money for a few days, buy hardware to improve your already free game with then stop making money... Please.

Yes, good luck! I'm sure it will be a "valiant" struggle until Achaea mysteriously gains 1,000 votes from nowhere.. but at least it will look like a competition for awhile!

All the bitter types pop out of the woodwork.

If you have an accusation to make, make it and be prepared to back it up. Otherwise, grow up.

I can't back it up, because I don't have access to the topmudsites server logs. But I'd imagine it's pretty obvious to some people. You know exactly what I am talking about.

False modesty = annoying after awhile.

These boards are for discussions about muds, for promoting muds, for recruiting for players and staff for muds, and so on. I promote our muds and engage in discussions.

You, apparently, prefer to spend your time making up baseless accusations that, by your own admission, are not backed up by any evidence. Thus, you are, in fact, full of nonsense.

If you want to discuss the legal aspects, then it would be best to do that on the legal board. Thanks much.

Just wanted to write that I'm quite impressed with Aardwolf's voting so far. Ahead of us even with a renewed effort on our part to out-vote them. Well done guys!

The answer is that, yes, by rewarding donations Aardwolf is commercialising itself, which violates the Diku license. However as Orion points out, such legalities would be better discussed in the legal forum.

Question

Yea! Go aardwolf. :) It is pretty amazing that aardwolf has been able to get this many votes. I'm rather proud of us. :) *minor gloat* Been watching this thread for days and unable to respond because I hadn't been authorized. Aardwolf does have an advantage because of the extremely dedicated and somewhat large player base. :) At the time of writing this note I just typed 'count'

There are 417 characters on, the most on this reboot was 458.

I don't know how many players Achaea has online normally, or what their player base in, so I don't know how we compare. And good work Achaea on the voting! It has been hard to keep ahead!

Jaenelle who needs to go figure out how to set a signature...

Gah, now look what you did. You went and woke Jaenelle up, and now you have to put up with her spam as much on here as we do on the MUD.

Don't say I didn't warn you ;)

So I don't go off topic, it's nice to see Aard doing so well. We were doing well before, of course, but it's always nice to see a bunch of numbers which validate this :)

Just wanted to congratulate Aardwolf on an excellent run for first this last round. No other mud has ever made us work that hard to stay in the #1 position. Certainly the closest Achaea has come to 'losing' since we first listed on the site.

Yes, the outcome was quite in doubt! Although I have to admit I was impressed that Aardwolf managed to spam almost as many votes as you did.
