This is a discussion on "MUDs based on pencil-and-paper games" in the Top Mud Sites Tavern of the Blue Hand forum :

Hi, I'm not sure if i'm posting this query in the right category, but.... anyone know of MUDs which are based on tabletop RPGs, e.g., DnD, AD&D, Rolemaster, etc.? I know Gemstone IV was once a Rolemaster game, but it has moved away from that. I'm interested in checking out games that fairly closely represent the mechanics of any traditional role-playing game. thanks!...

Most of your suggestions seem to be fantasy based, but I would try Deckeon at deckeon.mine.nu:2065

It's based on the Shadowrun 3rd edition pen and paper RPG. And we do our best to get everything as close to the book rules as possible.

You may find some are based on tabletop gaming rules, even if they're not based on specific tabletop gaming themes. The games at http://www.jointhesaga.com use FUDGE tabletop gaming rules for their systems. I understand that Arabian Moons uses FUDGE too.

Harshlands is based of HárnMaster ruleset, and world is very close of HárnWorld.
Some information material for game is directly from offical world or rulebooks. With permission of the publisher and game designer.

Awakened Worlds at http://www.awakenedworlds.net is a fully featured Shadowrun MUD based on the 3rd Edition Rule set. If you don't know about Shadowrun it's set in the 2060s in a technological advanced world where magic has returned. Mixes the best of cyberpunk and fantasy, though its a lot heavier on the cyberpunk side. Even if you're used to straight fantasy MUDs you should definitely check it out.

TorilMUD is a solid and mature mud adhering to the AD&D rules (conversion to 3rd ed is in the works) and the Forgotten Realms campaign setting.
