*hugs* hello, Jeena m'love!

Okay, as we were saying. I've been MUDing for about 2 1/2 years now. I'm coming to love Armageddon more and more... it has actual RP... novelty...

I've been mudding for what seems like eons. Well, I guess since Internet actually came to my town and I was able to connect to a mud. My idea was that since no one in this small town played rpgs like dungeons and dragons, I'd find some place to play it on line.

Some how I came across a game called Mortal Realms. I played there for quite a while. It eventually went defunct (did i say all this before). A friend from there introduced me to Med.

Sometime in between all that I spent a couple or three years playing a White Wolf Mush called Masquerade. Now, if you like RP that game really rocked!! Conflict and a variety of other situations were actually dependent up on the dice and other particulars of the White Wolf vampire modules. It was great fun..but it became emotionally draining as some intense RP can be. When my primary character bit the dust I used it as an excuse to exit the game.

I have bounced around in other muds. I like to check and see what others are doing and if it looks fun or not. So far, no one has managed to hook me like Med.

Tell me about Achaea. Do you have a staffer there? Do you play a lot or just occasionally?

Actually I fluxuate between being inactive and playing like a fiend. Currently I'm trying to plan Kopri's wedding, so I've been on quite a bit. But since SOMEONE got rid of Twilight (who we were going to ask to do it) *EYE MATT* we're having a bit of a struggle finding a replacement. And I need gown ideas.

I'm thinking the gown depends on the situation...you want a traditional wedding? or is this one of those deals where the bride has a nice long dagger stashed in the top of her knee high leather boots?

Since you and Kopri are both new to the boards, I will give you some basic advice about nettiquette. No flame intended, honestly, just advice.

1. When new on a discussion board it is usually a good idea to lurk a bit first, to get a general idea about the nature of the frequent posters, before you jump into the fray taking side with any of them. Otherwise this will determine how you are regarded by most other posters for a longer time than you might have foreseen or wanted.

2. To 'shout over the Flames' usually just has the opposite effect, it adds to the spam, and consequently to the flames, because most posters, (except the obvious trolls), hate spam.

3. To have a private, fluffy conversation with another poster, (especially if the content of is is of little or no interest for a majority of the posters), there is a neat option called 'Your messenger' available. The link is on the top right of the page.

Well... it's not a private fluffy conversation. That's the thing. It's a very public fluffy conversation. And I'm sorry if it's considered spam... but it's not as though we're being exclusive -or- just filling it with a bunch of 'lol's and '*snuggle*'s. The conversation just deviated into a wedding dress discussion, opening it to anyone who may have imput. If they don't... well, it's rather easy to ignore the board, isn't it? Just don't click the link ^^ But on these boards, I suppose I can see that anything civil could be considered unwanted spam. Heaven forbid we spam the flamers. And yes, yes I am one of the flamers, please don't misinterpret this as me trying to be 'holier than thou' or something. I think my flaming is spammier than this. I do, however, greatly thank you for your advice, though it's a little late for me to take it.

Anyway, Jeena, my character is having a traditional Tsol'aa wedding... and sadly, her fiance has been planning most of it. Tsol'aa are elf-like... we're getting married in a forest... and he said something about her arms and shoulders being free, so I'm thinking some kind of strapless. He spoke with her aunt about it, and she said something about his ideas being reminiscent of a Pagan handfasting. And he said blue, green, and white would be good colours. So... I have to fill in the blanks.

Well, since I'm not here to hide my preferences I don't see any particular reason why I should.
Secondly, since we are discussing mud rp in a forum which allows varied discussion there isn't a problem.

Kopri- I'd go with something more along the lines of a simple straightline dress, v-neck, maybe some gold accents, light green belt, some flowers in the hair.

Pssst... It isn't spam. It is actually very public right now as the fact that they probably want more people to come and talk.

*hugs Alleria* ^_^ we do indeed want more people to come and talk. It could be a board for... people who aren't depressed and unhappy! Omgosh... do they exist?

Plus, I get to be as fluffy as I want here because Jeena loves me even if the rest of you don't.

Thanks for the suggestion, Jeena darling... also... I don't know if I mentioned but I don't want Kopri in white. You see white= purity... and Kopri has about 16 kids... the jig is up. *grin*

Yes, well - good intentions and such aside ... you could much more efficiently discuss the intricacies of the wedding via instant messenger, email or *on the specific game's forums* . You can also use Top MUD Sites' handy private messaging feature.

It's great to communicate and stir up conversation on this board - and, yeah, some of the flame-fests become little more than two really ego-tripping people hammering at each other - but it's not much better when it becomes two people discussing little of consequence and adding to the noise that's already pervasive in the signal.

What signal? You're acting like this is a television. Noise? If you don't like the conversation... don't click the link. This isn't a game, so it doesn't belong there. It's not just a private conversation, as I'm rather DYING for imput from everyone who'd like to give it... and it's not just about wedding dresses. It's about... talking. To people. Communication. Pleasant communication. Don't like that idea? Then why bother looking at the thread, and then bumping it to the top by replying to it?

So anyway... Jeena, you say you're a professor of History? What kind? General history? Anyone else have a cool occupation to brag about?

I myself am a student.

I bother because I help Synozeer as a moderator here. And one thing this board needs more of is moderation.

I appreciate the good intentions, but it's basically begging to be flamed so as to satisfy a self-fulfilling prophecy. Why not post a thread that's less insulting to everyone, like:

Kopribear's thoughts on RP costuming or something. And put it in the Roleplaying thread

Right now, this thread is an attempt to come across as superior to others ... and, even if you *were*, it's a passive-aggressive sort of snarkiness in and of itself to flame the flamers. So: Bad form

Yes. Yes, it does.

Ultimately, I think TMS would serve as a better discussion center if the rules were changed such that either:

1) Non-MUD threads are removed, or
2) Non-MUD threads get their own forum that doesn't bump the "recent discussions" thread.

This thread is more or less the type of thread that discourages me from using the site more. I'd much rather see a confrontational thread about MUDs than a pointless off-topic discussion.

Yes yes, scoff scoff scoff... Jeena actually started this as a result of one of the other flames going on, hence the snippy title. Everyone gets frustrated, I doubt it was an attempt at 'holier than thou' or anything like that.

Just a general statement, I for one don't consider myself above anyone... because I'm involved in at least one of the flames. It's just nice to have a break, you know?

And... the Tavern isn't described as something to only talk about the principles of MUDs, or whatever. I'm sorry that I was confused... Jeena and I were having a discussion relating to MUDs... hoping it would continue going along the MUD-type path and everyone who wanted to join in a general pleasant conversation would join. But instead we're -all- being unpleasant and fake-nice and arguing over whether or not a regular conversation of people is all right or not.

So, Jeena, I say it's not worth it... which is what they want... so let's just let it go.

Two good suggestions.

I would also add:

3) Very heavy moderation of flames and trolls.

I completely agree with all of that.

(No offence, Kopribear. I don't mind your thread, I'd just like to see it off the 'recent discussions' thread as it's not got relevance to most of the site visitors, who are here to talk about MUDs, vote for MUDs, or find new MUDs.)

There are of course different opinions about who the worst trolls are. A pretty large majority seems to agree that the_logos is the biggest troll of all, and that Threshold has one of the higher positions on the Top Ten Trolls list.

However, it seems a bit late to discuss moderating of the boards, when most of the old-time posters already left, and are now having their valid discussions about muds elsewhere.

The content on the recent posts list on this site now seems to be:
- One off topic thread, partly on fire (Gay rights)
- One ‘fluff’ thread, partly on fire (this one)
- Four advertisement threads (only surprising thing about that is that for once none of those is about the IRE games, but that won’t last long of course)
- One on-topic thread, started by a moderator (Maximum Verbosity)

Rejoice! All the nasty trolls left! You have the boards to yourself now.

Now we are just waiting for the interesting discussions...
Wait... Most of the interesting posters just left...
Well, can't have it all, can we?

Who?

If you mean the people who announced leaving, not a single one of them were terribly interesting- certainly not more interesting than a lot of the people still here, and definitely not more interesting than the majority of people on MUD-DEV or a variety of game design blogs.

^_^ No offense taken, but thanks for actually being concerned about it. Okay, final post from me on the matter....

Sinhue, did you ever consider that maybe you're part of the problem? Perhaps if everyone learned to express themselves less provocitavely, there would be less flaming, ya think? You must have known once you posted that it would have offended at least one person reading this, especially after the direct personal attack, thus starting a flame. Before you condemn others with the title 'troll', how about you step back and take a look at yourself?

So with that in mind, I'm leaving the thread as requested. Attack me all you want, lovelies, for being 'fluffy' or uneducated on the subtle science and exact art of flaming, or whatever. How dare I bring any speck of happiness to these boards? I don't even know what I was thinking. I leave it up to you to keep bumping it to the tops with mindless namecalling and unprovoked insults. Snuggles all around... hope they don't melt you.

Hey, just wondering. Is there a single person who can actually talk an, here is a new idea, not try to attack someone. Come on people. It was made clear that she wanted people to join in. So just an idea. Lets all get along and join in the conversation. Besides, at one point it time before Sinhue started complaining, they were talking about MUDs.

Just a thought.
