This is a discussion on "RPG Inventer: Looking for opinions and ideas." in the Top Mud Sites Tavern of the Blue Hand forum : So what races would you like to play as in a RPG? What races do you not like to see in a RPG? Any made-up races you'd like to see? Ones I currently have are : Dwarf Elf Gnome Human Krolven (like human but taller, and indian-like) You can be half-<any of the above> Ones I've considered: Minotaur Satyr Orc Ogre Goblin Imp Troll I'm not too much on creatures though. So what races would you like to play as in a RPG?

Man, why you all always forget my race ? But i'd advice not to try to make as many races as possible, but instead to make them as different as possible. So that orc wouldnt been just another human with +1 strenght, and fairie just another orc with -2 strenght and +2 intiligence. |

I'd say that the races matter less than the skill sets which come along with them. If you can create balance sets of skills/stats/upgradeability suites for each race, then you can have as many and as diverse a list of races and classes as you'd like. The problem usually comes down to: is it balanced, and is it just another template that someone messed with?
