Given that so much of what we see in fantasy (and thus fantasy muds) is derived from various mythologies, I thought a poll on the subject might be warranted.

Here is the question: "Of the choices of mythologies given above, which one do you prefer?"

Please excuse any incongruous grouping; there is a 10-line maximum, and I don't really know much about Asian mythologies.  Clarify your answer in a reply if you wish.

If your favorite mythology does not happen to be described by any of the choices given, please put it in your reply; but still vote for the mythology you prefer most of the choices given.

I prefer ancient Greek, those gods where so enchantingly 'human'. Promiscuous, quarrelsome, temperamental, vain, vindictive, childish... a real soap opera.

I'm quite partial to a bit of celtic lore. I like the idea of being in tune with nature and such. My knowledge of mythology isn't amazing, though.

I voted for other asian, yet I like some mess of all of them most A samurai with katana, partied with a greek-like cleric and a viking berserker, taking on a red dragon is surely a sight to behold!

Classical Greco-Roman mythology and sometimes the Egyptian mythology. I really love the names of some of them, like Terra, Luna, Gaia, Selene, Seth, Horus, etcetera...

Have to go with Norse. Any mythology where you have a chance to battle all day long and then drink and eat all night long, even if you died during the battle, is a good one. Though greek mythology does have its charms as well, but I wouldn't exactly call greek/roman mythology classical since you can claim most mythologies are classical depending on where you come from.

Would have been nice to see Aboriginal mythology there, since the dreaming is very interesting.

I would suggest that it may have been easier to have grouped more together, especially celtic. Celtic mythology is mainly a mixture of Norse and Sumarian mythologies. Plus you could have lumped all the types that use the bible or a variation of the bible together. Guess I had best stop before I start getting to picky.

The term 'Classical' is by definition Greek and Roman (or referring to a certain style of music with a definite structure popularlized by dignitaries such as Mozart.) Look up the word in a dictionary.

I think probably classical mythology is my favourite, although I'm also partial to norse and egyptian mythologies. It's probably because classical is the most widely taught - after all, nearly all of the planets in the solar system are named after the gods of classical mythology.

Well..Celtic is good not just from a Goddess/God ideology but also because of their heros like CulCuthain, the Fianna, etc..Greek and Roman seem to be so widely used, their almost like an overplayed song on the radio BUT are interesting none the less..Egyptian is fun to play and play as because of the diversity of the pnatheon AND also depending on whom the Pharoh is/was (example - Tut's father tried to get Egypt to go Mono-theistic and got killed because of it). Also about Egypt, sure everyone knows the "main" gods/goddesses (Ra, Isis, Set, Osirus, Maat, etc) but it (the mythos) also has it's share of lesser known ones that are just as equally interesting to have a character "follow" like Khons and Sobek to name 2.
Summerian has it's points but unless you really examine it, it can get confusing at times (like the difference between Maskim Xul and Allah Xul). Japanese mythos itself, imo, is gaing more popularity due to the manga and anime industries and that's good. Sure everyone knows of Musashi and spirit dragons, etc but few know truly know what kitsune are and how the japanese percieved them (of course there's also the code of bushido but I wont get into that here. ). Norse is good for reading and you can see some similarites to other mythos, but overall..i gotta side with Egyptian.

So misunderstood by modern "scholars" (as well as real, dyed in the wool scholars [because they all cant agree on most translations, etc..]) but still a good insight into Egyptian society.Also the stories are good..of how the gods had problems, how some went to other lands to save another god ( the Osirus/Set/Horus/Isis story), etc. and how even today, they hold a feeling of mystery in most of the modern world because of, I guess, a fascination of one of the earliest, organized 'religions' to date...ok and you all know (that have knoweldge of Egyptian mythos) Bast and Anubis (or Anpu in egyptian..Anubis was the greek ranslation) were the party animals of the pantheon.
