I don't know what you mean by a free or really old issue, but information on the current/past issues are on the website.
Issues can also be aquired in bulk for distribution purposes. |

I think he means one that he can look at to get the drift of the layout and what its really about or whatnot, and its either old or free, or free because its old, or...

Free or old issue? It is only $10.00!
I am pleased with what I have received in the three issues. I've read each of them with a Starbuck's Coffee - the coffee cost more then the yearly subscription. If you end up not liking it - the paper can be used to make paper darts: http://www.tomshiro.org/pdart/primer.html -c... |

Actually I am a paid subscriber.
But they are a few problems. 1. I never recieve any emails from mudcompanion concerning my account. (None, zero, basta! 2. My creditcard however got charged but I recieved no information yet on when the issues will be send to me(nope didn't recieve any issues yet after being member for 2 months already) 3. When I email the mudcompanion I recieve no responses at all(or very very slow..)---> I think Thoric is on holliday!! My suggestion is ... Create/make a membership/password account for every member on the webpage itselfs, so that members can see an update status of their account. PS. So, when do I recieve my first issue?(Custom service Please Dial Customer_service-888-8888 *lol*) Sits here waiting~ Makila. |

Actually, Thoric is in the process of putting the next magazine together now. This is a far cry from being on holiday.
The main page of the site usually says when the issue goes to print, and when it begins shipping out. Depending on your location it the world, it could take two to four weeks to get to you. (The magazine is not sent airmail.) I have to say that I am one of the people holding up this issue with a late submission. I am still tidying up my article. (We had a few people leave my work since the last issue. I got really swamped at work for a bit). Neranz Laverani, Seeker of Knowledge |

I subscribed to Mud Companion Magazine when it first came out and I am eager to see the next issue.
I think it's an excellent idea to put together a "paper" magazine - for all the online resources available, as the saying goes, you can't take those into the bathroom. Ok, so you probably can, but it's cool getting an actual magazine, pouring through it, taking it with you. I often read the magazines a few times over. I was pleased in the last one to see some articles on different ideas people could incorporate into their MUDs from an RP perspective. I always thought that people would enjoy talking about different skills, spells, classes, religions, etc. and taking those ideas and integrating them into their own MUDs. Granted, I know that most people like to be completely original with their ideas, but I know for example the article on the unique race of elves got me thinking about a lot of ideas that I could bring to the MUD I help administer. I look forward to seeing the magazine grow in size and quality of articles. Maybe someday more issues would be put out per year. I'm happy to pay the price for the magazine... Acquiring The Mud Companion is a worthy endeavor. It has good articles, great art and a seriously dedicated staff. I wholeheartedly support their efforts.
This last issue was too full of coding stuff is my only whine. Shrug, you put in the articles you get and deal with the whines if any. It's all educational anyways if Mudding is your hobby. Good job Thoric and Neranz and all the others who submit. |

Heya,
I've filled in I got a free/promotional one, but that will be the next issue I think, I only recently bought zmud which comes with a free one. I'm looking forward in receiving it, although I wonder if a printed magazine isn't a bit outdated? I know I love reading a book too, but you could make a printable version. I actually print most of the sources I work with to read them in bed, much more comfortable, but I don't see a reason to pay for a magazine that will have articles that are mostly online too, plus it will take half a year to reach me *sniff* I love this forum for several reasons why I would like an online magazine better: 1)You can directly respond to it. 2)Everyone can react to it. 3)It doesn't have the disadvantages named above Ok so I'm kinda a open source, new age kinda guy *poke* who beliefs that we all should share the wisdom with as little cost as possible. And the internet makes it possible I believe. I do love the idea and thought behind it though. And I certainly appreciate all work that goes into it. Greetings Dre |
