Hey guys
I am not sure if someone already thought of it,but I would like to suggest the making of an EveOnline(EVE Online - a massive multiplayer online roleplaying space game - MMORPG) based MUD.
I know IRE is working on Tears of Polaris and from reading and participating on the ToP forums, it does sound something like EveOnline,but what i am talking about is a complete universe/game based on EveOnline.
What do you guys think?

I think there's a very good chance that CCP would come down like a ton of bricks on the idea...

Besides, EVE is boring enough WITH the pretty graphics. I dread to think what it would be like without them.

I think there'd be a small... no, a rather large... problem with trademark and copyright issues. Considering that EveOnline is a online multi-player game, they'd likely see any mud, including a free mud, as direct competition. You'd be better off trying to rip off the game design because that's much harder to copyright and defend, but ripping off the EveOnline world would probably result in an injunction assuming that the game has any success.

I'm pretty down on the idea of people ripping off other people's worlds anyway unless they have the original trademark/copyright holder's express permission.

I am talking about a MUD that takes its ideas and is based on EveOnline.
Something different and at the same time similar.
We already have an example of that.NCSoft based their game Dungeon Runners on the Mud of same name.

This was done with the expressed knowledge and permission of the owners of the original Dungeon Runners. It'd be fine if CCP gave permission. I guess the real question is how likely would it be for them to give permission for an EveOnline based mud.

You'll likely run afoul of various intellectual property laws very quickly. The developers would have to (knowingly or otherwise) take the risk that their work could be shut down at any time.
