For someone who 'doesn't care', you sure have a lot to say on the subject, matt.

Mostly negative too. Makes one wonder why you are so against this request.

I have no personal stake in the outcome and see it as a wash for the site either way, but then, I don't really care whether you choose Pecorino Romano or Parmesan Reggiano to go on pasta either, but I'd be happy to talk about that choice in length, as it's a subject that's interesting to me. Everything doesn't have to be "pro" or "con". Sometimes one just wants to discuss.

Remind me where I said "all"? I'm not seeing that.

See, I look at those numbers and say that 1/8 of the traffic is a sizable chunk, especially when you deduct your own traffic. (You're presumably not buying ads for your own players to see.) If I were running a business, I'd probably avoid considering 1/8+ of potential customers as irrelevant.

Alternatively, give 60 votes for 30-day periods.  Let them spend them when they wish, as they wish, but when those are done, that's it. Probably pretty easy to just throw down an inverse counter cookie that ignores IP, or some such brainy control over the output.

I like MostPopularSites' approach - the last time voted is available if you happen to vote too soon, so you can see how long you have to wait to be able to vote before.  The only thing I don't like is the eensy teensy 2-pt type of the numbers you have to type in to confirm, but bless their hearts, they listen to my gripes and diatribe once a year anyway.

Flame on.

I think people would abuse this readily unless it was tied into some sort of mandatory login system (which would be unpopular and cumbersome). Got 5 minutes of free time at the library or on a friend's laptop? Spam in 60 votes.

Same here. I'm just here for the free popcorn.

That is what I am still very curious about.

What happens when someone votes early?

1) Nothing.

2) Their vote doesn't count AND their timer is reset so they cannot vote for another 12 hours.

3) Something else entirely.

Which is it?

Threshold 11-12-2006 02:33 PM

Incidentally, I would much prefer a system where everyone's counter reset at 12pm and 12am instead of this 12 hour timer thing that makes it harder to know when your timer is reset.
