Detective Mud?
 

Does anyone know a mud where you can be a detective either taking place now or in the past?

I've never heard of one, but I imagine any of the modern mush/muxes, particularly the World of Darkness ones, would let you play that kind of character. Are you looking for a non-supernatural setting?

We have a pretty elaborate quest, where you have to interrogate all the inhabitants of a large castle, to find out who stole Lady Anne's necklace.

Probably not what you are looking for, but in a Time Travel mud like ours, you can basically take on any role that you choose.

You can check out . It's a game by Simutronics (Dragonrealms and Gemstone) and I think it's a pay for play game, though. It has a pretty small playerbase so maybe it's free now. I'm not sure.
