Not sure if this belongs here or on the blue hand board, my apologies if I guessed wrong...
So most sites that allow mud listings have these choices for pkill: none, restricted, full. My question is if you were searching for a mud and a specific mud only had arena pkill (you could only attack players in a certain room/area), which choice would you expect it to be listed under? None or restricted? Thanks! |
I'd expect restricted, though admittedly, "restricted" has a pretty wide range of meanings.

Yeah, wish there were more choices than restricted as that can mean pkill is voluntary or it can mean there are restrictions as to whom you can kill such as levels.

Maybe we can hash out a better set of options. As a starting point, I'll offer:
- Totally unrestricted. - Unrestricted, but the culture of the MUD frowns on PK. - Restricted by RP. - Restricted by clan/side/faction. - Restricted by Levels/XP. - Restricted by Opt-in. - No PK whatsoever. Obviously some combination of those four in the middle is possible. What else am I missing? |
- Restricted by area/zone.
Although you might want to differentiate between those that are mainly non-PK but have a specific PK arena (such as that mentioned by the original poster) and those in which the newbie/training areas are non-PK but the rest of the mud is not. |
Good call. I was thinking of that as opt-in, but I can see how it's a little different.
It seems like the most coherent way to describe this would be checkbox-style rather than trying to have options for all the permutations of restricted. It seems like this would be a good addition/expansion to the list. |
I like the list that has been proposed so far:
1. Totally unrestricted. 2. Unrestricted, but the culture of the MUD frowns on PK. 3. Restricted by RP. 4. Restricted by clan/side/faction. 5. Restricted by Levels/XP. 6. Restricted by Opt-in. 7. Restricted by area/zone 8. No PK whatsoever. Selecting 3 and 5 would adequately describe the PK system on Carrion Fields. Maybe some people from other MUDs can think of another option that shold be there, but I can't. |
9. PK, but pay for perks.
|
Please, let's not also take this thread there.
I think that's also a useful piece of information that should be searchable on in more categories than today, but I'd prefer if we just talk about PK in a pure sense here. |
