Once, there was only one god. Her name was Fjiorim, and she created the world and its first people. All lived in harmony, and Fjiorim was happy with her creation.

But even then, the mages of Tharel sought knowledge, power, and immortality. They created the Rod, later named the Rod of Destruction. It was designed to bring further life, but it only brought death: not only their own, but their god's.

As Fjiorim was destroyed, three gods rose, each with a part of her essence. Toroid was Good, Ytrewtsu Evil, and Irrail sought to keep a balance between them. There was no longer peace in Tharel. The forces of Good and Evil now struggled to defeat the other once and for all.

It was then that the Rod resurfaced. Discovering that Ytrewtsu hoped to uncover it, Irrail and Toroid went together to stop him. They were too late. Seizing a section of the Rod, Ytrewtsu turned it against his sister. Irrail was destroyed; the Rod was shattered. Fragments scattered across Tharel and were lost for centuries.

Empowered by fragments of the Rod and the spirit of Irrail, more gods rose. Each sought to impose his or her values on the people of Tharel. Followers flocked to them, to worship and to do their will. And the search for the Rod began, for with its power, a god - or even a mortal - could change the fate of all Tharel.
