Greetings:
This weekend, September 20-21 is our annual Online Gaming Resource Open House. For two days, OGR hosts discussions and events focused on practicals surrounding creating, staffing, administering and RPing in mu* environments. This year's Open House events include (all times US Eastern): Sept 20: 11am Leadership Panel - Scaramouche, OGR Gaming Wizard, questions a cross-section of mu* gods and goddesses in a roundtable on what makes successful leaders in the surreality of mu* environments. The roundtable includes Ben-Prime (Brass and Steel), Anomaly (AnomalyTrek MUX), Threnody (A Hint of Malice), Wolf (Ashirion: The Broken Sphere), Duke (Outremer), and shadowfey (A Snitch in Time). Sept 20: 1pm Character Development Workshop - Brody of OtherSpace examines practical approaches to developing a character concept for an application-oriented game that don't require preparation rivaling the GRE exam, as well as making a character unique without making them un-themely "for the sake of being different". Sept 20: 3pm Running Multi-Story Arcs - Fortunae of Anomaly TrekMUX details a process for creating and implementing a long-term story arc. Sept 20: 5pm RP Session: Hate's Labors Lost - Querl and Scaramouche take players on a trip back to Greece's mythological past to interact with gods and monsters. This adventure uses basic Dungeons and Dragons 3rd edition rules. Sept 21: 11am World Building Discussion - Joseph Sack of Conflicts of Earth will lead a round-table discussion, which will explore the process involved in building an original world. Sept 21: 1pm Alternative Gaming Systems - Darius will explore the facets of MUSHes that people seem to expect due to repeated exposure (deep immersive storytelling, a simulated undramatic world, a relatively static setting, factions and cliques, PCs vs Staff). Sept 21: 3pm Effective Use of NPCs - Minion of Outremer examines NPC use: NPCs are a fact of life in any gaming setting. A good staff knows how to use NPCs effectively to enhance the RP of their playerbase. This event will discuss ways to use NPCs to bring a game world alive and to draw players into on-going plots. There are limited spaces for these events, so signup is necessary. For signup and full event descriptions, please log onto OGR and type +events.
