Re: God Wars II is making a comeback

It really is a great and unique PvP mud. Is KaVir working on it again?

Re: Iron Realms announces Starmourn - its 6th MUD.

Congrats and good luck, this could be really interesting. I wonder how IRE will design this...if it were me I think I'd try to do some kind of EVE/Ingress but roleplay-focused mobile-first game. If...

Re: Looking for advice Coding/MUDing

There are many muds available at http://www.mudbytes.net/files/ . Unfortunately that site is going through a redesign so it's harder to search for the files you want atm. However what you can do is...

Re: Still trying to find the perfect game.

They're probably long gone, but Haven actually fills those reqs other than historical.

Re: DikuMud to OSI OpenSource - a True Possibility

It certainly could, but what do you do about the license of all the derivatives? Is it worth the effort?

Re: Mud builder?

Do you mean where all the work is done on the website and you don't have to host anything yourself?

Re: Detective Mud?

I've never heard of one, but I imagine any of the modern mush/muxes, particularly the World of Darkness ones, would let you play that kind of character. Are you looking for a non-supernatural setting?

Re: A MU* like ConQUEST?

Sadly none that I'm aware of. I don't know why he took it down either, though my impression was that he was fairly busy with other things and might not have had time for it. Toward the end there...

Re: Plagues of egypt mux

So, sort of like Armageddon with a restart cycle? I'm curious why you're using diku but calling it a mux too.

Re: Plagues of egypt mux

Sounds interesting. Are you using a particular RPG? Consent/non-consent? Multiplaying allowed? Planning to advertise on WORA?

Re: Flexible base code for a beginning coder

What are your favorite muds? You probably could download something similar to what they use and start playing around. Check out the repository at Mudbytes.

Re: Turnkey Codebase?

Sorry for the double post, but I've been doing some research and want to separate it from the last reply.

So you can see the 255 character limit here,...

Re: Turnkey Codebase?

Unfortunately I think you've already found the two common suggestions for this kind of request. Perhaps there is a DIKU-derivative with an OLC capable enough to create all of your races,...

Re: Starting a Mud without any coding exp.

Seriously though, someone made a decent documentary about text adventures (Get Lamp) so I'm sure a legit doc could be made about muds, even without kidnapping.

Though if there was kidnapping,...

Re: How do you bring back a fading MUD?

That's a good analysis plamzi, but I think there is room for an option A where you don't cater just to mud vets, if you find the 'right niche'. No doubt your presentation would have to change too to...

Re: www.mudportal.com

That's a fair point, but it seems like MP connects an order of magnitude more muds than any intermud network I know of.

OK, I'll give MP a shot as my sole client and see how it goes...I always...

Re: www.mudportal.com

Maybe you sometimes use the mudportal client (on a phone, on some other computer), and also use a desktop client. When you're on the DT client you still want to connect with the MP community....

Re: www.mudportal.com

Hey that's great.

Maybe a silly question, but have you thought about allowing connection to the proxy chat from a desktop client?

Re: Medievia - changes and staff overhaul

I don't think it's unusual for mud owners to have very little idea of what features other muds have had for decades.

That said, from what I understand Medievia does have interesting symbols for its...

Re: Testing out Engines for Eternea

It's available on the Quest forum (just search for multiplayer). Basically it involves running a node.js server (which handles all the incoming connections) as a proxy bridge to the running Quest...

Re: Testing out Engines for Eternea

Yes, Quest is open source and hosted here,

Quest - Home (http://quest.codeplex.com/)

As far as I know no one has run the Quest development kit on Mac. It's possible you could do it with Mono but...

Re: The Telnet Travelers' Guild

Sounds sensible. I wonder what's considered the most impartial mud site where the Guild could post its reviews. Mudconnector? I'd say Mudbytes but I don't know if many players visit there. Does the...

Re: Testing out Engines for Eternea

It sounds like you're looking more for a mud with a decent OLC system, something where you can add skills. I don't think Quest is the right choice in this case for a mud; even though it uses a...

Re: The Telnet Travelers' Guild

I like the idea. Are members required to post their impressions? How much time does the Guild spend in one mud? Does it take breaks in between muds? Is choice of mud decided by popular vote or by the...

Re: Testing out Engines for Eternea

Do you mean the Quest at textadventures.co.uk?

That's an interesting choice for a mud. Was the main criteria that non-programmers could build? If so there are probably better choices, like PlainText...
