I think it depends on what aspects of the series you focus on. If its the bloody warfare and strategy you want to capture, then yes, a MUD might be better suited. If its the political intrigue, I think roleplay-focused is what's needed.

Of course, I am biased.

And GRRM noted to us that he was quite intrigued by the game, and that he better not try it out in case he'd end up hooked and distracted from his writing.
