Dear Everyone,
Not sure if this question should be here, but I have a quick question. Assuming that someone set up their own dedicated server for the sole purpose of having a MUD run on it, with nothing else (mail server, web site..) how much bandwidth do they need for 100 players? 500? 1000? 1000+? I know more can always be better, but how much for a low amount of lag with minimal (wasted) bandwidth? Thank you, Raewyn |

I don't get as detailed statistics now as I got when I leased my own T1. I leased a T1 for a few years when Threshold's average usage was about 125-175 online.
Our upstream traffic was about 30-60k average. In other words, very small. Oddly enough, I've heard of muds that churn a whole lot more than that. Threshold might use less bandwidth because people talking and RPing uses less bandwidth than everyone running around the world at full speed generating craptons of room descriptions. |
