What About Play By Post or PBP?
This is another form of text playing. PBP basically allows you to use a bulletin board just like what this site uses to role-play. Here is an explanation of it that is more thorough than I could put here: . Does anyone do that? As a DM? Player?

I played PbPs for several years but haven't done so in a couple of years. I even ran a PbP site for a few years called PbPHUD with special mapping software. Prior to that I was on PbPMAP.com which seems to be defunct now. From what I do know, one of the main bases for PbP now is and roll20.com. It's a lot of fun though.
