"The server is too busy"
So what exactly causes this? It's a bit strange for a forum software to generate a message like this...
Downtime is annoying, but at least it isn't as bad as Mudrage. |

Re: "The server is too busy"
At least MudRage's is simply caused by Kyndig closing the site intentionally when updating it usually.

Re: "The server is too busy"
When are you actually seeing this? There's a period around 4am server time when the daily backup is done and the google/yahoo sitemap files are rebuilt that things lag. Other than that, unless someone is spamming us we should never see this. The site is on a fairly decent sized dedicated server with nothing else running here...

Fizban: I can't even resolve the site, wouldn't it make more sense to have something like a text message saying "Currently updating" or something.
Lasher: Happened 10min before I made this topic. |

Re: "The server is too busy"
Thanks, did you just get it one time, or was it persistent for a while?
A quick google shows it is something vbulletin does when the load average on the server goes beyond a certain point. It's set to 5 and right now the load average on the server is - load average: 0.08, 0.04, 0.05. Not sure what would have caused that sudden spike but will keep a look out for it. The server log shows a particularly high level of spam/open relay attempts at from 10:50 - 11:02 .. maybe that was it. |

I don't know when it started, but it lasted for at least 10min.

Re: "The server is too busy"
You forgot the permanently part. Except it's after the fact now.
MudRage has shut its doors, permanently. |

Re: "The server is too busy"
So once again the site had "The server is too busy at the moment. Please try again later.", as well as what seems to be site downtime beforehand.

Re: "The server is too busy"
Yeah we had some load average issues caused by spam again. Only using one email address on this server period, think I'll just find a good third party provider. Any recommendations?

Re: "The server is too busy"
I was very skeptical of the "Gmail for business" suite, but after moving to it a couple of months ago it handles spam better than any other app I've tried. This "server too busy" stuff was caused at times by so much spam hitting the server all at once, so shouldn't happen again.
We did have a SQL error a couple of nights ago - it was caused by a cpanel upgrade breaking the "InnoDB" settings. As we don't use InnoDB anyway it was a quick fix. |

Re: "The server is too busy"
I'll second the vote for gmail. I only get a relatively small amount of spam, no more than 30 or so messages a day, but I've never had a single one get past the gmail filter.
