![]() Hi everyone.
After some reading and browsing I decided to try my first MUD. However I do not know where to start. I am looking for something : 1)Beginner friendly 2)No perma-death/huge death penalties 3)Still active/with enough of a large user base Theme and setting don't matter that much , medieval , apocalyptic , whatever. Just need something to ease me into it and which has a large enough community still active I could ask for advice when I inevitably get stuck. Any advice is appreciated. ![]() |

Re: N00b's first MUD
If you own an iPhone or an iPad, grab the Bedlam app from the AppStore. Mudding doesn't get any easier than that.

Re: N00b's first MUD
Try Alter Aeon. Its very forgiving and newbie friendly, has a solid custom client with an excellent map and our player base is very active and helpful.

Re: N00b's first MUD
Jump over to Shattered Isles and give them a look. We're about to get a big combat update that everyone is looking forward to. The player base is not huge but we are very active and helpful with new players. We usually have about a dozen or so people logged in at once and upwards of 25+ during an event. Right now it's about 9:30am EST and there are 10 people logged in.

Re: N00b's first MUD
10+ is ok
20+ is starting to get decent I still remember my own personal peak days between 50-60 in perhaps 1999 or so a shame that these numbers can only be reached by a very few MUDs, who, all without any exception, are not interesting to me in any way whatsoever. I can't play in "bragg the troll level 123 is online" games. |

Re: N00b's first MUD
Sindome isn't necessarily easy to learn, because there is a LOT to it, but, we do call it "newbie friendly" because nothing bars a brand new player from beginning to play right away. It DOES have a lot of players on all the time and they are very helpful to new players, both in in-character ways and out-of-character ways. We see new players every week, many who are totally new to M** games, who stick around and create lasting characters.
The game does not satisfy your requirement of "NO permadeath", permadeath if of course POSSIBLE, but, it only happens rarely and almost never to someone who is actively trying to avoid it. It happens to first-day noobs who don't read room descriptions and warning signs, and it happens to people who roleplay IC actions which make people want to retaliate. Even the real ****-stirrers can avoid permadeath VERY easily. Player volume is 10-15 at the SLOWEST times (very late at night, U.S. time) and rises to peak over 40 for sustained periods every day. U.S. daylight and evening hours are the most populated, but there are ALWAYS people on and plots and roleplay are VERY active EVERY day. |

Try Ancient Anguish. Free to play, newbie friendly, very expansive with a cohesive theme. ancient.anguish.org port 2222.
