Couple of things come to mind when mapping:
a) Where are you getting your data from - the raw area files? zMUD maps? a log from a session? b) how do you want to present them on your website - one big graphic image? text-based HTML with colors? c) how accurate do you want the maps to be? Personally, I went for both using some rather basic C coding to parse what was essentially a *very* large log that walked the entire area that I wanted to map. From this log was generated a large HTML-intensive map using text. So ended the automatic map generator phase. From the HTML map, I 'zoomed-out' using the IE text-size function (view menu), took a screen shot, fuzzied it up in MS-Paint and presented it on the website for the general public to have a rough idea of how the place was spread out. ----- Not aware of any programs to run through area files and generate images. Thinking about such an approach, it would require some discipline on the builder's part to ensure everything 'fits' as far as distance travelled for each direction-exit. |
