Here's another tip that is pretty effective if you want to get the players out exploring: Zoneflags.
You place a unique Zoneflag at the 'heart' of each zone, preferably hidden in some way to make it harder to find. (It shouldn't be possible to just use the spell 'locate object' on it). Then you offer a reward for each 10 different flags a player brings in. You can also have a bigger reward for the player who collects the most flags in the game. We use the zoneflags as a Clan Quest; the first player to find a new flag gets it reset in their Clan and the Clan with the most flags also get a pretty big reward. Since the Clans always compete, this has high bragging value. Usually we reset the flags in batches of 15. And whenever we announce that a new batch is in, it stirs some feverish action, when the Clans are trying to beat each other to be first on the flags. It usually doesn't take them very long either, showing that at least some of them know the world pretty well. |
