The 2004 IGDA (International Game Developers Association) white paper on Persistent Worlds has been released. You can find the 82 page .pdf here:
It's pretty good though of course it focuses mostly on graphical titles. I don't think they talk about any text MUDs besides Achaea, Dragonrealms, and Gemstone IV. Understandable, I guess, but annoying. Text MUDs still do a lot of interesting things that the big graphical games can't touch. Still, it's worth a read. Good 'state of the industry' as it were. --matt |
