Mmm. Slightly off-topic.
Idle question - what is with this sudden interview fetish from various MUD sites? I mean, in the past month or two, I've easily gotten a half dozen to a dozen interview requests. (Admittantly, I've only accepted one to date - and that was because it was a friends.) Has a sudden influenza of interviews struck the MUD resource community? What is with all of them - really? -D |

Well, in Brody's case, he wants to offer the point of view of Sci-Fi/Fantasy administrators to his viewers.
In Dulan's case, he was most likely only asked by Orion for an interview, possibly six times before Dulan actually did it. Laugh, you know you want too! It is funny! Laugh with me! OK, now stop! In my case, I have been doing interviews since 1999/2000 and only until this year did anyone else in our little community feel like interviewing others. However, I am probably the only one who asks questions relevant to each individual and not have them fill out a generic and multi-purpose form on the Internet. But, then again, I do make it harder on myself going that route. I have a number of interviews to do as of yet, but because I attempt to do some homework on a person and what they do, it takes time, something I have not had much of. There is no big conspiracy here, Dulan, just that Orion and I are competitive. No matter how much Orion says otherwise. |

Orion & All,
I never spoke for you, just stating the obvious. You are competitive! You interview people whom you work with and friends as well. Just like myself, you have reached a smidge off the mainstream MUD map to get some interviews from the people behind the scenes of other projects. When you assume I aim for interviews which draw hits to my sites, so do you and so does Brody. Interviews, like most else, are eye candy meant to bring people in to read. However, thank you for being civil about it, even if you read a bit too deeply into my statement. |

Sure, the interviews draw hits to our sites. More importantly, they have the potential for drawing hits to the sites of the people who get interviewed.
And: If any of you other MUD news site operators out there have news you want to get out about your site, send it my way at Online Escapes. OE isn't out to compete specifically with MUD news sites, and in fact can point people to you. It's all good. Speaking of which: The interview with Molly O'Hara from Four Dimensions is now up! |

Honestly, I think it's great that Brody's taking the chance and letting MUD developers and creators submit their own interviews/questionnaires. It's allowing some of the not so "well-known" creators express their opinions and say "hey" to the community. The more people feel comfortable coming out and talking about their game, the better, I think. Not only does it promote inter-game communications, but it allows for more sharing of information and ideas, which can only benefit the community.
I'm not saying that the sites that only interview the "well-known" members of the community are bad, but perhaps they might broaden their horizons a little bit and take a look at the lesser recognized creators, some of which have worked just as hard creating their own little corner of text-happiness for the online community to share. |

You make it sound like you know or atleast heard of all the people MudWorld and MUD Planet have interviews about and compare it to Brody's interviews.
Speaking for myself only, I do not specifically aim for the most popular people in the community. Many of those interviewed at MW are lesser known people who deserve to be known. Hard work warrants some appreciation. No one, well few, does alot of work for nothing, not even a "thank you". I have been to MUD Planet, I go whenever Orion tells me he has a new interview. I have had to ask him about some of the people he interviews, since I have never heard of some of them before. A few have asked me about those at MudWorld because they did not know the people's real names. That is now why I include aliases in the interview listings. That solution does not always help, some people are codebase limited, so others from another codebase may not know of a person interviewed. MW & MP interview sections, read up: |
