Well, there sure has been a lot of hub-bub over the DIKU license, what with everybody going commercial (generalization).
Anyhow, I was looking over the license again and saw this: Quote:

We're talking about a license that's over a dozen years old, do you actually believe that the e-mail address they supplied is still active? Or better yet, do you seriously think they -want- everyone to email them? I mean, sure, I'd put it on my license if I ever released my code, but after 14 years and thousands of muds running DIKU-based codebases, I'd wish people would just stop

Not trying to flame or anything, just pointing out a serious hole in your logic. You may actually be right, but there are no facts to support that conclusion...yet. |

Oh that's ridiculous. Start a poll if you must. But I believe that most DIKU muds started within the past 5 years haven't sent an e-mail or even tried

Your beliefs are irrelevant and largely unfounded. Your dishonesty does not extend to everyone else.
And, case in point, the last DIKU-derived mud I worked on did send the e-mails. One of the team even came along to say hello, as I recall. |

You guys are great! Long live the trolls of TMS. Maybe I was too subtle. I thought I was being humble admitting I'd violated it so many times.
And Kastagaar, I am furious that you would dare say my beliefs are irrelavent. I never said my 'dishonesty' extended anywhere. Remember 'in my estimation'? I was hoping we could have a constructive discussion regarding the license, perhaps. But what the h ell is my problem? I never made any conclusion, so of course I have no facts to support the alleged conclusion. ![]() Unlike Matt, I'm serious in that I'm done with these boards. -X |

Anyway, the argument that "I am breaking the licence, therefore everyone must be breaking the licence" is clearly illogical (Hasty Generalization Fallacy), and already disproven by myself on this thread. *b'boom-chuck. |

For what it's worth, I also did send them an email (and got a visit), but that was 7 years ago. To blanketly state that no one does it is not really appropriate, but yes, I am sure there are plenty of people who have not sent the email...

Late response here, but I too sent all 5 of them notice at some point. I admit it wasn't the day we opened, but it was somewhere down the road. I got back responses from two team members and one of them even dropped by to say hi and wish us luck. I thought that was pretty cool given that they still cared enough to do so after 10+ years

I agree with you xanes. Pure trolling. Some unhappy people just don't have anything better to do.

Re: DIKU License Revisited
Eh I might as well make a post now that this topic has been revived....after 3 years hehe. But yea to the point, I tried emailing the creators of Diku when I first opened my MUD. It didn't work out very well, so I was quite confused for a while. After looking at the other multiple Diku MUDs online that weren't being yelled at for violating any licenses, I figured my MUD was ok without sending in an email. It would be nice to get the original creators to rewrite everything.
