A MUD with a RP-Mode
Some time ago, I stumbled across a MUD that was divided by roleplayers and non-roleplayers. I believe the way it worked is that the non-roleplayers were able to see the roleplayers, but not interact with them, while the roleplayers simply couldn't see the non-roleplayers at all.
Does anyone have any idea what MuD this is, or of any with a similar set up? I appreciate the help! |

Hmm. How did that work? I mean, if a non-roleplayer dropped a sword in the presence of a roleplayer, did the roleplayer just suddenly see a sword there on the ground?

Re: A MUD with a RP-Mode
I actually have no idea - I didn't stick around long enough to find out, haha.
I did find one MuD named Distant Lands who seems to do this (from their website): "Segmentation code allows those who are roleplaying to not hear and/or see what non-roleplayers are doing or saying (other than movement), so your roleplaying experience will not be interrupted. Those who are not roleplaying can see everyone who is roleplaying, what they are doing, saying and hopefully join in on the fun." But logging in, I don't think this is the same one that I once found, and it seems to be fairly unpopulated unfortunately, which makes it difficult to see the segmentation in action. |

It sounds like a cool system to engineer, but the logistics seem really odd, especially if you're aiming to create suspension of disbelief.

That is one of the most odd systems I've heard of, but it doesn't mean it wouldn't be effective. Just. Odd.
