I've been searching for news during the months that have passed since Darkovers apparent demise, but havent heard anything.
Does anyone out there who had played Darkover in the past or involved in someway know the scoop? Jengar/Grud/Enigma and family etc etc etc |

OMG! Jengar!
Yeah, I heard from Vicolan that Landis was tired of fixing and rebooting the server, or something like that, and he's decided to let the mud die. I have no shame in saying this: I could have collapsed and wept when I heard this news most foul. And I had only just recently gotten my hands on dolomite and a set of tatts, too. Bah. Please e-mail me; we need to find a new mud home. ) BTW, Vicolan is helping someone start up a new MUD in August or September and I can give you the info for that. I can also give you the contact info for Vicolan and Gnimish if ya like. Cheers, Lythande Winteroak, Wandering Heirophant of Irony //(**)\\ Your faithful Chaos Horde Clannie, and lower mainland buddy. |

I played Darkover since it began back in the mid-90's (as Korova and Kharne). I worked with Launt, the original owner/operator back in high school. He helped me start a business and attending my wedding. We remained close until I moved to another city about 6 years ago.
It sucks to see it come to an end, I was close to having a 3x Monk. I had not logged in for about 3 months and tried this morning just so my equipment would not disappear. Some google searching turnd up this thread. I am not sure I will ever mud again. |

Well hello kiddies, Kep just dropped me this link, so I figured I would say hello to those I havent been in touch with over the last several months. Its good to see this many ppl still care about DO. For those who dont have it, my AIM is feel free to drop me a line, and I will keep my eyes open, here and elsewhere.
Peace Asharru(AKA Metztli, Dagon, and about 20 others) |

A plea to Landis,
Landis, assuming you ever read this string of posts, I'd like to suggest bringing DO back. Now don't cackle yet, consider the following: Darkover was a common good that players and admin enjoyed; it was more than a hobby--a club of those who simply enjoyed mudding and the DO environment. It was a great mud. I know this from experience with DO and others, and I've heard ditto from those who have been around the MUD universe and selected DO as their MUD home. If doing the admin stuff became a burden, and I can understand how it could get that way over the years, why not let others handle this? Or sell (if people buy and sell such things, of course) the mud to someone who can carry the torch? When I was younger I thought I'd outgrow RPGs etc... but I changed my mind; I'll play these damn things until I can no longer type or can't have an internet connection! Do I hear an amen?! Give yourself a break by all means if that's what you need, but we would all like to see DO come back. Surely someone could help with the server admin like booting etc.... Besides, I had just gotten dolo for crying out loud--have mercy based on that! The rumors of DO3 were intersting too. It would be a shame not to implement some of that. Bah...now I've just been sappy on a public MUD message board. That's gotta be worth a return of DO. How does January sound? Cheers, Lythande. |
