Check this out. One of our players did this. Very... odd. In the words of the site:

"Soul Mates is an on-line character dating service* for Achaea, Dreams of Divine Lands®. Soul Mates 1.0 is available for download below and is free to use. Soul Mates uses a Token system to conduct transactions, so it doesn't cost money to use. It does cost Achaean gold, however, to purchase Tokens from Marc of Achaea using the free Soul Mates client (comes with download). Tokens cost 1 gold sovereign each (1000 Tokens = 1000 gold). "

Note that it's specifically only to be used for character dating, not players hooking up. Heh. *bemused*

Oh, I'm pretty sure it won't take off. In fact, I'd bet on it. I think it's an interesting little concept and told him it was ok when he asked (mainly because I don't have any right to stop that kind of thing, and also because it's not going to have any real effect on anything), but Achaea's not large enough to require a third party matching service. Lots of people are also afraid (probably without cause but I can't say for sure, of course) that it may be logging keystrokes or something. There's no real reason to suspect that aside from paranoia, but people are suspicious anyway. I have to admit that I won't be installing the program to check it out until lots of others have without reported problems.

So, I'm a level 14 mercenary looking for a level 12 druid to share my plus four mace of disruption. I like walks in the Mortania Mountains and forays into mysterious dungeons by torchlight. (Sorry, I'm not familiar with Achaean game mechanics.)

I wish admins on the muds I play would purvey problematic products that caused paranoia among the playerbase.

Mildly disturbing, if kind of cool. I suppose it beats seeing people advertise for dates on Market, newbie or city channels. And a little nicer than the usual 'I r n00b, mudsexx me.' junk that crops up.
