What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
The title says it all. What race/species of character do you typically prefer. Obviously not all of these are compatible and found in every game. Choose the ones that you find yourself drawn to when available.

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
You do mean "prefer to play," right?

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
I voted for other. I play MUDs and I'll choose any race/species that will give me the best game mechanics advantage for whatever class/guild I've chosen. If it's a RP enforced game, I'll adjust my RP accordingly

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
I play elves pretty much all the time, well except on rp enforced muds then I usually play humans.

I dig things with wings. Thought I was cooler than that, but guess not. I'm so sappy .

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
Kinda old topic here, but it caught my interest, so I decided to weigh in.
Despite being a straight male — and a (self-described) manly male at that, though I clearly wouldn't be here at TMS if I weren't also at least somewhat nerdy — I've always really liked fairies. Back in my tabletop role-playing game days, I was more excited about White Wolf's Changeling: The Dreaming than I was about Vampire: The Masquerade. Although I never actually played the game, a couple of years ago, I was able to make an online trade to acquire a near-mint copy of the original Changeling: The Dreaming game book. Needless to say, I keep this a closely-guarded secret from family, friends, and most especially members of the opposite sex. |

Heh you should see my collection... It has grown since these were taken. And yes all those books belong to a female and her girlfriend.

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
Oh, absolutely! But I don't mind letting it all hang out around women who also play MUDs. It's an "all in the same boat" sort of situation.
I consider myself to be a "stealth nerd" of sorts... role-playing, the fantasy genre and geeky computer games are guilty pleasures for me. I'm not ashamed of my interests per se, but a lot of people in today's world understand very little about these sorts of hobbies, yet also harbor vague misconceptions about people who partake in them. In short: I'm a nerd who doesn't want to come out of the closet. Nice collection! I also have a massive collection of RPG books. I have two shelves' worth in my own residence, a large packing crate full of them still stored at my parents' house (for going on six years now), and three or four loaned out to my cousin Anna, the only other member of my family who has similar interests. And yes, I know women play RPGs, too. In fact, in my last tabletop role-playing game group, of the six members, three of them were female. Fancy that, eh? Sadly, I haven't been able to really play in a group for years now. Last edited by Suicide Boy : 03-23-2010 at 09:28 PM. |

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
Hm... I've considered developing a mud (should I ever have the time) consisting solely of different clans of faeries. I wonder if guys would be too put off to try it out though...

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
Most of the Celtic fairies were pretty powerful, so you could definitely get away with it. If you want to read up on it, you could try reading about the Sidhe and the Tuatha de Danann. The Seelie would be your typical "good" fairies, and the Unseelie would be your typical "bad" fairies. Several mainstream authors have recently made these stories pretty popular.
The Celtic mythos is quite riveting, and I think that you'd find plenty of men (and women) who would love to play in a world completely based on fairies. |

Re: What Race/Species Do You Prefer?
I've always preferred playing human or half-elven wizards. Something about the idea of controlling the very forces that run the world has always appealed to me.

![]() I'm going with other. The list is fairly generic, but my top three races I've played have been arakun, dragon, and unicorn, in that order. Barring that, I've typically gone with human.

![]() I would have to say that my favorite character of all time was an War/Cle Ogre named Grag. Always spoke in third person. Dumb as a box of bricks. Had an intelligence of...I think it was 6. I love game mechanics. *snicker*
LOL, Now I have him as a mob. He's King of the Kobolds. Though I am thinking of bringing him back. Gonna RP something out where he was exiled for being too stupid to rule Kobolds. >.> |
