There has to be a light harted mod(non-RPI) that has other things to do than bash monsters AND isn't bent on spaming my screen with constant global channel and/shouts crap

the second is the trick, seems like to find a quite mud it has to be RPI

I prefer (best) custom and LP muds

there has to be a mud that is just plan fun and is more than a over glorified chat room

muds are for exploration, AOL is for chating

Well, I can list just about EVERY MUD ON TMS if that's what you're wanting.

You don't want global channels, TURN THEM OFF. You don't want to "bash monsters"? Not a problem, DO SOMETHING ELSE. Wander around, explore. Make a few friends and keep to yourselves, if that's what you want.

9/10's of muds aren't good or bad, players make the mud, and most players suck.

Try Feudal Realms, or wotmud.com or tarmongaidon.org if you like the Wheel of Time theme. DartMud is an okay mud, though they call themselves "RPI" They bash and smash mobs, but I don't think it'sfor xp, but to sell their crap...

I've played on a mud that I think sets the standard for combining serious gameplay with light-hearted fun. Overdrive is one of the older LPmuds out there and it sort of made its name by offering a touch of absurdity to go with its complex and descriptive combat.

Right now, the player base is a little low (usually 20 or so at any given moment), but my experience is that the more people show up, the more fun it can get (as if that wasn't obvious)

There is a new listing on here, although the website is a little dated (we're updating it soon) It might not be exactly what you're looking for, but I thought it sounded close enough to mention.
